Overall I feel the wig work and Postiche unit was very
successful and felt I gained a lot of new skills during the unit and learnt wig
work and hair more in depth than ever. Over the course of the unit we went
through each decade of hairstyles while researching into the decade. I think
structure and direction I feel is one of the main importance in creating a
hairstyle. Structure and the placement of the hair I think impacts the design
of how it holds and sit and also direction such as the placement of rollers
which sets the hair ready for it to be styled. I chose the decade of the 60's
and I really enjoyed studying the era and researching the fashion, hairstyles,
make-up and the icons of the decade. I got really into the research that I felt
helped me direction myself to create my final design and its overall outcome. I
think when styling both modern and historical designs I found the modern design
the hardest to create because of the height and length of the hair which made
me have to resolve the issue by adding hair extensions, hair pieces and the
placement of the hair grips. Creating the modern design was also hard because
it was my first time working with an acrylic wig and having to style it into a
design so I had to get used to the hair texture and working with it. I also
found the pleat a challenge because the first time I created one it looked okay
and not so neat so I was determined to create it perfect this time. If I could
do it again I would buy a longer wig to make the styling of the height easier
rather than trying to cover it with extra hair. Over the course of the last few
weeks I have really enjoyed studying each decade and creating a hairstyle that
would have been worn in the era and how you would have created it. After
worries it wouldn't come out right on the assessment day I am extremely pleased
with the outcome of both my hair designs and the final photos of my 1960's
historical and modern wig.
