We started with getting our Kate heads out and brushed her hair so there we no knots at all and so its easy to separate. In the 80's the hair parting was always to the side and there was no parting at all at the back. For the hairstyle we were doing half the head is to be curled with tongs and the other side with a hairdryer and diffuser. I started with parting it to the side and then parting the other section away with a large clip to keep out the way while I start with the first side.

I started with the side I was going to curl with the tongs and clipped a small section of the fringe away as the fringe wasn't going to be curled. I then started at the top of the head with the tongs and rolled the tongs down to the root and held for around 10 seconds. After I used a comb to slide the tongs out and used a small grip to hold in place while the curl cooled down. I started working myself down the head until I got to the bottom section and I just curled the bottom parts and left them loose.

Once the whole side was curled and gripped up in place while it was setting, I sprayed it with the hairspray and then started on the other side. I firstly sprayed the hair with water so it was damp and then applied mousse to the hair. I then attached the diffuser to the end of the hairdryer and put the hair dryer on full heat and power. I then held the diffuser to the head with the hair inside it, in between dries I would crease the hair up in my hands.

Once the hair was completely dry and curled I sprayed it with hairspray. I then went back to the first side I did and took all the grips out the curls, I then got my Afro comb and started teasing through it downwards and then backcombing it upwards to give the hair the 80's volume. Next I went onto the fringe where it was untouched, I sprayed it with some water and put mousse in it and used the hairdryer with the narrow end and a rounded brush to start blow drying the fringe to give it volume. Once it was completely dry and had volume to stand alone I hair sprayed it and backcombed the roots.

Once the styling was done I used the afro comb for the back to blend both sides together. I then got patterned material hair tie and placed it around the head and tie it in a bow at the top on the side.

In the 80's banana clips were very popular to have in the hair. We didn't have a banana clip however we used grips in the same sort of way to create a similar look at the back. The top of the hair had a quif and the sides were scraped back and all the curls hung from the middle.
